Private civil suit
Ohio Gambling Recovery LLC v. Kalshi, Inc., et al.
U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (removed from the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas), 4:25-cv-01573 (consolidated with 4:25-cv-01574); 2025 CV 01517 (Mahoning County)
Pending
Removed in July and August 2025; the plaintiff's remand motions before Judge Benita Y. Pearson were fully briefed in October 2025 and no ruling appeared as of March 30, 2026. The defendants' deadline to answer runs from the remand ruling.
The question
Whether a third party can use Ohio's gambling-loss recovery law to recover money lost on sports event contracts offered through CFTC-registered exchanges and brokers, and whether the case belongs in state or federal court.
Ohio Gambling Recovery LLC sued Kalshi entities, Susquehanna, Robinhood and Webull in Mahoning County on June 11, 2025 to recover gambling losses tied to sports event contracts. Robinhood removed the case to federal court in Youngstown in July and August 2025, and the plaintiff has asked to return to state court. No ruling on remand had been entered as of March 2026. The plaintiff's claims are allegations.
Docket timeline
