Prediction Market Laws. (2026, October 28). KalshiEX LLC v. Murrill. https://predictionmarketlaws.com/lawsuits/kalshi-v-murrill-wdla
Complaint filed Oct. 23, 2026. No ruling, and no motion for a preliminary injunction confirmed, as of Oct. 28, 2026.
The question
Whether federal commodities law preempts Louisiana's gambling laws as applied to Kalshi's sports event contracts.
Kalshi asks the court to declare that Louisiana cannot require a state gambling license for contracts listed on its CFTC-registered exchange, and to bar enforcement. Kalshi says enforcement is imminent; state laws that took effect in August 2026 raised penalties for illegal gambling operators, with reported fines of up to $100,000 per wager.
Docket timeline
Kalshi files suit against Louisiana officials seeking declaratory and injunctive relief.
